  1. Hayes ISDN System Adapter Version 1.1

  3. Hayes( ISDN System Adapter is the first external multimedia adapter with 
  4. superior voice and data capabilities for PC, workstation, and host 
  5. computer environments that supports both AT&T and Northern Telecom ISDN 
  6. central office switches and fully implements Hayes Standard AT Command Set 
  7. for ISDN.  
  8.  
  9. The adapter implements Hayes AutoStream protocol as well as provides 
  10. direct access to the 64 kbit/s 
  11. B channel bit stream for transparent data transmission at the maximum B 
  12. channel rate.  The adapter implements the CCITT ISDN Basic Rate Interface 
  13. (2B+D) and supports standard analog telephones, answering machines, Group 
  14. III faxes and modems.  Hayes ISDN System Adapter is equipped with the 
  15. industry-wide standard RS-232 serial DTE interface for personal computers, 
  16. and the user can access voice and data services through this serial port 
  17. with Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN.  A switch selectable V.35 
  18. interface is also available at the same connector.

  20. Hayes ISDN System Adapter and Hayes ISDN PC Adapter are supported by 
  21. application programs now available from more than 20 software developers.  
  22. These third party developers are part of Hayes total ISDN Technology 
  23. Empowerment Program which extends from technical publications to training 
  24. seminars and Hayes Developer, Test and Training Labs.  These services 
  25. offer developers, end users and resellers comprehensive product support 
  26. unlike any other ISDN CPE vendor.  In addition, the architecture of Hayes 
  27. ISDN products has been designed to support National ISDN 1 specifications, 
  28. and Hayes will continue to work closely with switch vendors and service 
  29. providers to ensure that ISDN services based on National ISDN 1 are 
  30. deployed throughout North America.

  34. Macintosh Configuration Program - Hayes ISDN System Adapter Enhancements 
  35. for the Macintosh User Guide contains detailed instructions for 
  36. configuring the ISDN System Adapter with the new Configuration Program for 
  37. the Macintosh, using voice features through your telephone set, and 
  38. placing and answering data calls using Hayes ISDN Tool for the Macintosh.

  40. Hayes ISDN Tool for the Macintosh Communications Toolbox - Provides easy 
  41. and complete access to the advanced data features of Hayes ISDN System 
  42. Adapter.  Settings provided by the tool are divided into four functional 
  43. areas, accessible through a list of panels.  Each area controls an aspect 
  44. of Hayes ISDN System Adapter or the connection.  Written to the 
  45. specifications of the Macintosh Communications Toolbox, Hayes ISDN Tool 
  46. has been designed so that Hayes ISDN System Adapter users can take full 
  47. advantage of ISDN data capabilities through existing applications which 
  48. support the Macintosh Communications Toolbox.

  50. Improved DOS Configuration Program - Defaults have been updated in Hayes 
  51. ISDN System Adapter Configuration Program for the PC to reflect the most 
  52. common settings for easier set up and use.

  54. Enhancements to Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN - Supports latest 
  55. enhancements to Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN, including new 
  56. defaults, options and error codes.

  58. Caller ID Feature - Implements the Caller ID feature for data calls (X.25 
  59. PSD or CSD) which enables the called adapter to have information such as 
  60. the calling party number and the called party number available to convey 
  61. to the user's application.

  63. ISDN SERVICES (Basic Rate Interface)
  64.  
  65. Data Capabilities - Hayes ISDN System Adapter supports B channel circuit 
  66. switched data (CSD) and
  67. B channel packet switched data (PSD), as well as D-channel PSD over the 
  68. ISDN Basic Rate Interface.  For CSD calls, the ANSI V.120 protocol is used 
  69. for rate adaption and error-control for asynchronous host connections, and 
  70. direct access to 64/56 kbit/s B channel bit stream is used for synchronous 
  71. host connections.  PSD calls use CCITT X.25 protocol recommendations 
  72. including X.3/X.29 packet assembler/disassembler (PAD); X.28 functionality 
  73. is mapped to AT Commands.  The D channel and a
  74. B channel can be used simultaneously for data calls with either channel 
  75. supporting multiple data sessions, for a total of four sessions.  Multiple 
  76. simultaneous session support requires use of Hayes AutoStream protocol by 
  77. the host computer application.

  79. Voice Capabilities - Circuit switched voice (CSV) is available on one of 
  80. the B channels using a standard analog phone attached to the RJ11 
  81. connector on the adapter's back panel.  
  82.  
  83. ISDN voice services provided include basic centrex features: conference, 
  84. drop, transfer, hold and retrieve.  Other Central Office (CO) 
  85. switch-supplied supplementary voice services are supported, such as 
  86. calling line identification, two call appearances, speed calling, call 
  87. forwarding, call park, call pickup and others.  Basic voice features, and 
  88. some supplementary voice features, can be accessed from the analog phone 
  89. by using hookflash and dialed access codes.  Other supplementary features 
  90. and feature button access are supported through Hayes Standard AT Command 
  91. Set for ISDN.

  93. ISDN SERVICE OPTIONS

  95. Combinations of ISDN services are dependent on ISDN line provisioning.  
  96. Hayes ISDN System Adapter supports line configurations that provide up to 
  97. one B channel circuit switched voice service, one 
  98. B channel data service for circuit switched or packet switched 
  99. connections, and simultaneous 
  100. D channel packet switched services.

  102. ISDN SWITCH COMPATIBILITY

  104. ISDN Switch Support - Hayes ISDN System Adapter is compatible with the 
  105. AT&T 5ESS switch, Generic 5E4.2, 5E5, 5E6 and 5E7; and the Northern 
  106. Telecom DMS-100 switch, BCS-29, BCS-31 and
  107. BCS-32.  The architecture of ISDN System Adapter has been designed to 
  108. support National ISDN 1 specifications.

  110. Product Upgrades - Hayes ISDN System Adapter has been designed to support 
  111. future switch software releases, including the National ISDN 1 standards.  
  112. Hayes continues to work closely with ISDN switch manufacturers to develop 
  113. compatible products which take advantage of the latest switch 
  114. enhancements.  An upgrade program for Hayes ISDN products ensures 
  115. availability of firmware upgrades as new releases are made available.

  117. Network Support - Supports 64K unrestricted or 64K rate adapted from 56K 
  118. network transmission for circuit switched data calls.

  122. Hayes ISDN System Adapter supports Northern Telecom DMS-100 and AT&T 5ESS 
  123. implementations of CCITT Q.931/I.451 signaling and call control, and CCITT 
  124. Q.921/I.441 data link layer and error-control.  Hayes ISDN System Adapter 
  125. also supports the CCITT I.430 network interface, ANSI V.120 rate adaption, 
  126. and CCITT X.25 packet switching.

  130. Analog Telephone Interface - A standard analog telephone interface is 
  131. provided via an RJ11 connector on Hayes ISDN System Adapter's back panel.  
  132. The adapter provides the necessary ring voltage and supports up to three 
  133. typical analog telephone devices such as modems, Group III FAX and 
  134. answering machines.

  136. ISDN Line Interface - The ISDN Basic Rate S/T interface is provided at an 
  137. 8-pin modular connector on the back panel.  Passive bus support is 
  138. available, allowing multiple ISDN devices to access a single ISDN line 
  139. when using the Northern Telecom switch.

  141. RS-232/V.35 Host Interface - An RS-232 serial interface supports 
  142. autobauding up to 38,400 bit/s for the host computer.  A switch selectable 
  143. V.35 interface is also available at the same connector; an optional 
  144. adapter plug converts the DB-25 connector to the standard V.35 connector 
  145. and is available from Hayes Customer Service.

  147. LED Status Indicators - Hayes ISDN System Adapter status is indicated by 
  148. eight LEDs which inform the user of various aspects of adapter operation 
  149. and ISDN and DTE connection status.

  153. Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN - Hayes Standard AT Command Set 
  154. for ISDN supports high speed data connections and access to ISDN services 
  155. while emulating a Hayes Smartmodem*.  This capability allows users and 
  156. developers to make a smooth transition to ISDN using a familiar 
  157. application interface.

  159. Hayes AutoStream - Hayes AutoStream for ISDN provides multiple session 
  160. capability over a single physical asynchronous link.  Up to four channels 
  161. are supported and can be individually programmed to control the voice 
  162. service and multiple data sessions.

  164. Hayes ISDN Tool - Hayes ISDN Tool is a connection tool, for use with the 
  165. Macintosh Communications Toolbox, that provides easy and complete access 
  166. to the advanced data features of Hayes ISDN System Adapter.  This utility 
  167. enables Hayes ISDN System Adapter to take full advantage of ISDN through 
  168. applications supporting the Macintosh Communications Toolbox.

  220. Product Warranty - Hayes ISDN System Adapter is backed by a two year 
  221. limited performance warranty.  Hayes guarantees that the product will 
  222. perform as stated in the user documentation specifications.  Since the 
  223. company's emphasis on quality results in extremely reliable products, 
  224. Hayes can provide outstanding repair service when the rare, but 
  225. inevitable, service is required.  While Hayes warranty service turnaround 
  226. is a maximum of three days, over 98 percent of the individual units 
  227. received for repair are returned to customers within 24 hours.
